Gallery Krome Berlin

The gallery is closed, we are moving: In this series of our blogosphere you can find an update of the art map in our book Berlin Contemporary Art.

Gallery Krome has moved and will be re-opening in their new space in September in today’s hippest gallery borough. Formerly, the gallery was situated on the Majestic Karl-Marx Allee in Mitte borough, in a stalinistic neo-classicistic architecture complex. However the gallery has even longer history. Michael Krome established the gallery in 1994 in Berlin as Schipper + Krome together with Esther Schipper. It was the result of a longer previous cooperation with Schipper in Cologne.

It is an awry situation to peer through the huge windows of the gallery for the moment. A gallery construction site, with one table, an assistant and the magical Apple notebook, inhabit the bald walls. The prospect is promising, the space has character. As to our question what kind of advice the gallery would give to young artists on the look for a gallery, the assistant answered:”We prefer to find the artists ourselves. And galleries are always on the look for new good artists they just don’t show it as such.”

Krome will also have a branch of the famous magazine store Do You Read Me on the not far from the gallery.
