"The world explains the way you feel" is the title of a painting by Fiona Rae (b.1963) at the exhibition in Buchmann Galerie Berlin.

Today foreign ministers of 28 nations and over 20 partner countries gather around the table in Berlin and discuss this very subject, to tell us how we should feel. How do we feel about Libya, terrorism, peaceful atom and other deadly matters? Rae’s world explains you the way you feel. Her painting shows an abstract background with partially seen almost comic-like explosion in the left field. The rest of the surface is covered with little neat hearts and rabbit mugs in friendly colours, which look as if they were simply stuck to the canvas. Like these stickers you find in teen magazines, used to decorate mobile phones or school work books. Along swim some pink Asian-style flowers in the blue clouds of the painting.

Abstract brush strokes are countered by clear-edged graphics of wall paper patterns. However disturbing the abstract background - with washes and dark drip paints are, they seem illuminated by a young girl displaying us the attraction and distress of contemporary culture.
