Exhibition "Here Comes Everybody" of Cory Arcangel at Hamburger Bahnhof / Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin

Exhibition is open from 30.11.2010 to 28.08.2011

Cory Archangel, sorry, Arcangel, of course, has not stolen his name. Archangels possess important place in local religions, including the arts, and even so in the most contemporary religion of all: The World Wide Web. Some call the American artist (b. 1978) a Virtual Jesus (Marcus Woeller in Artnet). Arcangel works with the tools supplied by computer techniques, social networks, youtube, etc. The programmes needed to produce his works are developed by Cory Arcangel himself.

The exhibition in Berlin’s Hamburger Bahnhof is constructed around the altar piece A Couple Thousand Short Films about Glenn Gould, the video work donated by British Outset Contemporary Art Fund. This double channel video is constructed out of 1100 images from the internet, processed by Arcangel with self-designed software. Bach rushes at the speed of light, a godly beam, we are struck by lightning. Other works in the exhibition include Tingueley for the matrix age (our title), kinetic sculptures constructed out of shelves and two more video works inspired by Jimi Hendrix and Arnold Schönberg.

Jesus built my 2.0!
