Exhibition Square2 of Robert Kusmirowski at Johnen Galerie Berlin

Exhibition is open from 11.03.2011 to 16.04.2011

In the current exhibition at Johnen Gallery, the acclaimed Polish artist Robert Kusmirowski (b. 1973) invites us to follow the production process of art works, in a very special way. We find a kind of art historical presentation devoted to some major names, which creates a narrative studio situation. Warhol’s Campbell soup cans, Pollocks’ trance-like physical practice of dripping paint all over the canvas and Malevich’s black square – it is all there.  read more

Are  Jackson Pollock’s paintings precious? Does it make its carpet sibling a work of genius as well? Is the black square of Malevich a fruit of hard physical labour made by construction workers out of tar on the floor? Or why are all the old-looking instruments, like shovel and cart standing there?

Kusmirowski is interested in recreating old objects, as well as the process of their creation. He is a Herbert Wells of contemporary art.
